A Quick Guide to Online Classes & Where Your Library Resources Are: Staying Motivated with Online Classes

A guide to help students access the variety of resources the Wilcox Library has available online and some helpful tips along the way.

Some Simple Ideas...

In more detail:

  • Having a "study buddy" helps you keep each other accountable for example: when you work out with a team member and you both do your best because the other is there.
  • It's great to have a designated study space. Keep the area as clear of clutter as possible and have your textbooks, laptop, notebooks, and such kept close so they are there for you when you need them.
  • Keeping a schedule is important because it is easy to forget what all needs to get done when you aren't having to attend in-person classes (believe me, I know from experience). I know I feel better and more motivated for the day if I shower and get dressed prior to sitting down to work. Do what works best for you though, use this time to your advantage! If you work best at night, work at night!
  • Don't forget to take breaks! Sometimes we can go from one extreme to the other so don't forget to give yourself a break. Take time to eat a meal, take a nap, play a video game, or watch a tv show. You don't have to get it all done in one sitting.
  • Lastly, move around! I find this particularly helpful when I'm feeling stuck on an assignment or having a sleepy day. A good walk around the neighborhood or any type of exercise can really energize you and give you that extra motivation you may need to complete whatever it is you are working on.
