The ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom suggests that during Banned Books Week, readers write, tweet, etc. to authors whose works have been banned or challenged. The purpose is to the let the authors know what their stories have meant to their readers and to promote awareness of the issue of censorship. You can learn more at the campaigns website:
Book Burning in Orange City, Iowa
In 2018, Paul Robert Dorr burned four books from the Orange City, Iowa public library. Included in the books burned was "Two Boys Kissing"-the #11 banned book in 2018. This August Dorr was fined $125 for the damaged books and found guilty for the misdemeanor of criminal mischief.
